Steps to Hide Facebook Posts from a Specific Person

Hide Facebook Posts

So, you’re scrolling through Facebook, thinking of dropping a post or two. You’ve got friends, family, colleagues—the whole social mix on there. And let’s be honest, sometimes you don’t want everyone seeing everything you post, right? Maybe it’s that one friend or a nosy aunt you’d rather keep in the dark about some of your updates. Here, I’ll walk you through how to tweak your post settings so only the people you want can see your stuff.

Start Creating a Post

Just go to Facebook and hit up the “What’s on your mind?” box like you always do. Once you click there, you can decide whether this post is going to pop up on your news feed or your story. Look for a dropdown menu on the right side to pick who gets to see your post.

Select Who You Want to Exclude

Here’s where you fine-tune things. If you’re posting to your news feed or adding to your story, you’ll see options to share with all Facebook users, just your friends, or everyone but a few select people. To keep someone specific from seeing your post, click on “friends except” and a list will pop up. You’ll see all your friends, plus any lists or groups you’re part of. Just click the minus next to a person’s name to hide your post from them. Don’t forget to hit “save changes” to make sure your settings stick.

If you plan to post both to your news feed and your story, you’ll need to do this for both—otherwise, someone you didn’t want seeing your post might catch it on your story. After you’ve set your audience, just click “share” and you’re all set. Your post will only show up for the folks you’ve chosen.

Honestly, Facebook has made it super simple to control who sees what. But it seems like a lot of people still don’t know how to use this feature. These steps are all you need to keep your posts just between you and your chosen audience.
