A Simple Guide to Building a Kickass Gaming PC in 2020.

If you’re a gamer, building a custom PC is and will always be something that you’re passionate about. It can mean assembling different components to make a unified system or just choosing the right collection of gear to give you the specs you need. Custom-PCs cover a wide range of what is possible, and it holds an amazing potential that is yet to be unraveled.

Now, you may have already tried doing it, or it may be a dream you’re yet to realize (You need a budget). Either way, there’s always information and insights to be shared when it comes to being your own engineer. As a Twitch streamer, one of my passions has been to study the equipment that work well. I’ve also tried to keep a tab on any new tech that is coming up or a newer generation of existing tech. Popular streamers like Ninja (moved to Mixer last year), TinTheTatman, GeekandSundry, are all well-known for the gear they use as much as the games they play. Also, there are upcoming streamers like Rubius, TheGrefg, LEC, etc. all operate with some pretty good hardware that is hard to miss. But one primary concern that people generally have with these setups is the budget that comes with it.

I understand that not everyone has the kind of dough that these biggest streamers earn, and you get frustrated when you think about it. But the great thing about streaming culture is that it is accommodative to smaller players if you know how to present yourself. If you’ve got the right insight and attitude, you can create a significant presence on budget systems.

Getting the optimum combo of gear

The most important thing here is the right combination of hardware. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of gaining access to a variety of hardware and trying out different combinations of gear. Today I am convinced that the optimum combination of equipment is more important than the price tag. And if you too are trying to get started on a budget (Everyone starts that way!), I want to help you source the right gear. Essentially, I’ve categorized three builds that I hope will fit different budgets.

These components will mostly be recent hardware that is set to make it big in the streaming industry. So, they should give you a head-start in getting the right components. 2019 was a great year for custom PCs, but this year we’re going to see the next-gen series of a lot of hardware. With that in mind, I want to share these knowledge-resources with you and help you build that kickass gaming pc without going beyond your means.

Core components of each build

Each of the three builds is composed of 8 core components, excluding the operating system. The OS is uniform across all builds, i.e., Windows 10 (Best choice across all budgets here). The core components I’ve chosen to make up the PC are:

• Central Processing Unit: The processor controls the overall working and performance of your system even if the GPU does the heavy work in gaming.
• Motherboard: Arguably the most crucial component, the motherboard determines the nature of hardware you can use (Graphics, USB, Video card, etc.)
• Graphics: Dedicated graphics is at the center of your gaming experience. The GPU is the single most expensive item in a gaming PC, and the selections here account for 1/3rd or 1/4th of the expenses in each category.
• RAM: I’ve gone for an 8 GB RAM in the first category since it’s enough for most games available today. The two more expensive builds each have 16 GB to carry any access programs that you may need to run.
• SSD: The internal storage will contain all your installations and storage. Filling it to capacity will affect the speed of the system. Each build here gets a progressively higher-end drive.
• Case: The Tower/case is the enclosure in which all of these components will be housed. All three cases here are practical and visually appealing.
• Power supply: The PSU will ensure a steady power supply to your unit. The models in each build here are according to their corresponding budgets.
• Monitors: I haven’t splurged too much on monitors in order to afford better technical gear. Each item here makes for excellent viewing and gaming experience, though.

Operating System

For each of these builds, I’ve gone for Windows 10 as the default operating system in the setup. Windows 10 may cost around $130 depending on where you purchase it from. Windows 10 allows you to fully utilize each feature by configuring your options according to the game. Modern games keep developing with newer features and better graphics, and you need an OS that will match the experience. The DirectX 12 form Windows 10 lets you harness the complete graphics quality of the game. Also, the ‘Game Bar’ feature in Windows 10 makes it convenient for you to share your content with others online.

Price flexibility

I’ve compiled each item here based on current prices as we’re into the second month of 2020. But for the sake of clarity, please remember that price tags may vary depending on your location and setting. It will be advisable to keep a flexible price range to accommodate fluctuation in price. Also, most of the smaller peripherals have been excluded. The reason is that I wanted to let you have the freedom to choose on your own.

Kickass Gaming PC with 1000$ budget

If your budget is around a thousand dollars, there’s still a lot of hardware to choose from. But with so many economic options, selecting the right components becomes a maze of confusion. I’ve focused on a balance of performance and value for money for this build.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600

The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 is a processor that simply delivers what it promises! With a bigger budget, there are other options that give you more punch and capacity, but the Ryzen 3600 can hold its own even among more prominent players. With six core processors and a Wraith Stealth cooler, the Ryzen 3600 at 180$ (Approx) is one of the best choices you can make.

Motherboard: MSI B450 M Pro

The motherboard that undoubtedly works best with the Ryzen 3600 processor is AMD’s very own MSI B450 Pro. It works optimally with all three generations of AMD processor technology and gives you an affordable solution. With multiple expansion slots, the B450 M is the ultimate companion to your Ryzen 3600.

Graphics: Radeon RX 500 8GB

With 2100 mm fans and 1750 MHz boost clock, the RX 500 is definitely the best option, and you spend a mere 320$ on this bad boy. The 8 GB memory should easily hold any modern game, and you can retain this hardware even when you choose to upgrade others. It’s one for the long haul, and definitely a shrewd investment to make early on in your PC budget.

Even with a not-so-high budget, I would advise you to go for a 16 GB RAM capacity. Modern games keep evolving into heavier and more functional programs. And it makes sense to have that extra memory if you have to run multiple programs. Most games should come under the recommended 8 GB capacity, but if you decide to stream one day, or run additional programs, the 16 GB will come to good use.

SSD: Sabrent Rocket 1 TB

The Sabrent Rocket (1TB) is one of the latest additions to the SSD industry, which has managed to keep more popular options on their toes. It can easily give Kingston KC series a run for its money, even though it’s the less expensive option.

With that, we cover the first build of the best gaming PC in 2020. I have intentionally excluded other peripherals like keyboard, mouse, etc. because I leave it to your own judgment. Best Gaming PC build under $1500

With an added 500$ to the budget, your custom PC can be molded around a higher mid-range class of hardware. The $1500 build will bring you up to similar levels as many successful Twitch streamers use. If you want to add streaming equipment, the budget will increase, but you should have a high-performance setup just for gaming purposes.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700

For the processing power, we will stick to AMD even at this price level. But with the added purchasing power, we can use the Ryzen 7 3700, which comes with better specs than the 5 3600. If you’re willing to invest a decent amount as this, it implies you’re further up the gaming experience ladder. We have the 16 GB total memory to compensate for any situation where you might have to run more programs simultaneously. As you shift between game options later, the extra RAM will ensure that you do not have to compromise on performance.

SSD: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB

With the $2000 build, we can also go for a bigger drive. We will stick with the Samsung Evo Plus drives, but this time, I recommend going for the 1 TB option. AS mentioned earlier, Samsung EVO plus drives are a cut above the rest and usually perform better than competitors with higher capacity. With the 1 TB EVO Plus, you’ll have enough storage to store multiple massive games without affecting the speed of your loads.

Power Supply: Corsair CX650W

The Corsair CX650 W is one of the premium items on this build that will make sure that your systems run with stability and zero complaints. The 80+ Bronze certification means it legitimately gives better output and much lower consumption. While it comes at a premium price of over $100, you’ll find that the benefits far outweigh the pocket-heavy price. It’s entirely constructed out of industrial-grade materials, giving it durability, and RPM fan gives you an almost zero-noise experience.

Monitor: AOC C24G1 24″

If you’re upgrading your hardware or going for a new, more expensive built, your monitors also have to stay optimum for the setup. For the current build, since most of the components are high-end grade, I’ve chosen a monitor that is cheaper but still runs at a decent 144Hz. The 24-inch display may not be as wide as you’d want, but you can always upgrade to a 27 inch or 32 inches when you can. The AOC C24G1 comes in all of those screen sizes, so swapping later won’t be a problem. For me, the curved VA panel and minimal frame size make it an ideal fit in this kickass assembly.

1. Mercedes EQC.

2. BMW iX3.

The long-awaited BMW iX3 is due to hit the market in the first half of 2020. It will be the first electric SUV designed with the BMW DNA.

This car is not only great in terms of looks, but it will also give you a thrilling experience with its incredible performance. With a powerful 75kW battery pack, the iX3 will have a range of 250 miles, which means you get to travel to greater distances. Above all, the car can be fully charged in just 30 minutes or less at fast-charging stations that uses 150 kW DC fast chargers. There isn’t a lot of information about this speculated electric SUV. 3. Ford Mach 1.

Ford has announced its plan to produce an electric car called the ‘Mach 1’ in 2020. However, the company has not yet disclosed any information regarding the car.

But according to the information provided by Ford’s people, Mach 1 is going to be an electrified performance car. At least we now know that it’s a fully electric-powered SUV that they’re building.

On a brighter note, we can assume that the Mach 1 will have similar fronts and rear of the Mustang. According to the Executive Vice President of Ford, the Mach 1 was inspired by Mustang, and the crossover they’re working on will be somewhat of a hybrid of the Mustang and the Ford Raptor. He also added that Mach 1 would have a unique platform since it will be powered by electric energy.

It has been more than a decade since the company produced the Mustang Mach 1; Ford has not used the name ‘Mach 1’ ever since. Also, there is a reason why Ford does not want to reveal the details. 4. Volvo XC40.

The Volvo XC40 electric SUV is closely related to the standard Volvo XC40 Diesel in terms of looks and design. This electric SUV will be one of the first to have the car’s infotainment system that’s powered by Google’s Android Operating Systems.

This car will have the power to travel up to 248 miles on a single charge. Its power will come from the 150 kW dual motors mounted on the front and rear axle. 5. Rivian R1S.

Although the Rivian R1S is yet to be on the market, we know for sure that it is going to be one of the most powerful electric SUV ever produced. It seems like the R1S is going to be the first electric-powered car with a fully off-road capability.

The specs of this car are very impressive. It has a quad motor system which can collectively produce up to 750 Horse Power. You may be wrong if you think that only hyper-cars can go 0-60mph in 3 seconds. Well, the manufacturers of this SUV have claimed that the RS1 has enough power to achieve that feat i.e.0-60 mph in 3 seconds.

Quad motor system and 750 HP? That sounds like the vehicle consumes a lot of energy, right?
